& 1915. Promoted to be one of His Majesty's Vice

Conculs in China July 1, 1915.

Sir J. Jordan, H.H. Ambassador at Peking, asked to

give hic views on candidates for 3rd Grade post

in Hong Kong replied as follows in a telegram of Sept.

6th 1918 Knowledge of Chinese and experience of commercial conditions in China appear essential

for successful working of this post.

Mr. Brett will accept and is in my opinion a

most suitable candidate."
